How Was The Halswell Quarry Formed

The Halswell quarry was a mine to build Christchurch city , it is now a conser vation park.


Over thousands of years , clay particles have been swept off the mountains and pushed to the quarry location . After million of years it stared to build up and form clay.


20 million years ago a volcano erupted . Then 2 million years after anther went again and shot out minerals in the the form of a brick.


The quarry location was discovered by the dean bothers and they thi is a good place for a mine.


Some times the shells at the bottom of the ocean get push together to form a brick then a earth quake moved the shells\bricks to land and the appearances were changed.


When they set up a mining camp they set bombs to break up the mountain , when it was broken up they would send miners to pick up the rocks and load them up carges one goes up to the hill top on a line , on the line all clay would be thorn off the line onto the ground , the other would be pulled up by bull.



In early 1900s they build the rock crushing machine once build working condtion were easyer considering now they got to load it on the machine before they had to wast time finding sertain size rocks
